Ben — "This song was built off a drum and Wurlitzer loop I sent to Dennis on Christmas Eve of 2013. I fell in love with the warmth of the drum loop and the overall groove. The chorus has a snare sampled from a drum machine called a “Rhythm Jester” I found with my mom at an estate sale in Cape Cod. The Wurlitzer was also found with her at a estate sale. My verses stem from insecurities I was feeling at the time, not particularly wanting to match a girl’s ideal version of me."

Dennis — "I was really into the track Thirteen by Ben Kweller for a good while. Wonderful words. But I this dark part of me really wanted the last verse to say ‘it was in the back of a taxi when you told me you fucked him’ just like nasty derailment of a fairytale love song. So this is my attempt of an anti-love song. I enjoy being thrown into songs whose stories don’t neatly start in front of you. Songs that offer you a mere glimpse into a world with its own history and boundaries. Those are the types of songs that we try to write.Ben sent me the loop and it ruled my life for a few days. Everything came together really fast. I love how sleepy and morning-ish the whole thing ended up."
